A glove prosthesis restores a normal appearance and some function

We are sensitive to the fact that finger and hand amputation causes psychological distress in addition to the loss of function. We work to lessen emotional distress by providing exceptional prosthetic rehabilitation. The psychological impact varies among individuals, and is not necessarily proportional to the extent of the injury.

Who needs finger or hand prosthetics?
We create custom fingertip, finger, thumb, partial hand, and hand prostheses for patients who have suffered a traumatic amputation or have lost anatomy due to disease, such as diabetes or scleroderma, or were born missing part or all of a hand.

What are the benefits of finger or hand prosthetics?
Our goal is to restore anatomical form and function–normalizing appearance to improve your social confidence and quality of life. Silicone prostheses may protect sensitive or painful areas on remaining parts of a finger or hand. We restore the greatest degree of function possible.

How will a hand or finger prosthesis function?
Studies have shown that custom finger proshteses may provide near-normal function for patients with distal finger amputation. By restoring finger length, the prosthesis improves pinch force and grip. Restoring lost anatomy also enhances oppositional function of the hand. In the case of complete finger loss, we create passivley adjustable fingers that can assist in holding objects, making daily tasks more manageable.

How are prostheses made?
Our custom prostheses are made of silicone–a durable material that enables us to create lifelike restorations. We add individually made acrylic nails that can be polished if desired. When space allos, we may us a framework inside the prosthetic finger. This allows for adjustment of finger position. Our process requires three to four appointments, in addition to the initial consultation.

How are finger and hand prosthetics secured?
Silicone finger and hand prosthetics require remaining anatomy for retention. Often we use a precise fit that relies on suction.

How are the limitations of finger and hand prosthetics?
Prostheses are an artificial substitute for living tissue, and do not tan, grow, or age. We recommend removal of finger or hand prostheses at night. You will need to periodically replace your prosthesis to maintain aesthetics and hygience of both the prosthesis and the underlying tissue.

What can we expect from your team?
Call or email us to schedule a complimentary initial consultation. We require a physician's order to begin prosthetic fabrication, but not for the initial appointment. We are glad to assist you with insurance pre-determination and prior authorization. Our office is fully accessible with convenient parking.
